Cloth Diaper Carnival VIII

Write about ways they envision spreading awareness of cloth diapers or work they have already done to do so.

This is a topic near and dear to my heart!  As most of you know, I am a labor and delivery nurse.  And I love my job!  It is such a joy to help new moms bring their tiny precious babies into the world!  I have been working L&D for quite a few years now, but sadly, have had to change hospitals a couple of times as well due to my husband's job.  It is hard to implement new education into a facility that you have not worked at long.  However, at my current hospital (I have been there for over 2 years) I have finally gotten to a point where my opinion counts and I am not just "the new girl."  While I am not teaching childbirth class (although I would love to!!) my good friend Brenda does!  After stewing over the idea for a few months, I finally approached her and asked if she would be willing to introduce cloth diapers in class.  She was ecstatic!!!  I was thrilled!  So I sat down and explained cloth diapers (the 5 minute version) and she was sold!  We recently ordered a cloth diapering demo kit and are set to introduce them in the next class which will be starting soon!  I am so excited!  And of course, guess who the guest speaker is!!!  :)

Over time, I had hoped to be able to introduce cloth diapering at the hospital as well.  I do not know much about the cost of laundering hospital quality cloth diapers and how this would affect a hospital budget, but I had hoped that over the next few years I could gain more knowledge about hospital cloth diapering and maybe get this implemented at our facility.  So I will have to leave it in the hands of my co-workers to take that step if they wish. Because we will also be moving again soon...for the FINAL time!

My husband recently took a FT permanent position in the same area where I grew up.  My family as well as life-long friends (a few are CDing mommas!) are there and I am so excited to be moving home...forever!!  But this also means starting again at a new hospital and working my way up.  I hope to one day be a childbirth educator and I hope to get a cloth diapering community going there as well.  It will just take TIME.

I am also trying to spread awareness and education through my blog.  I know that when I was first starting into my cloth diapering journey, blogs and reviews like Dirty Diaper Laundry were tremendously helpful.  I just want to be able to help other mommies (like me!) on their cloth diapering journey!!!

I am open to any and all ideas on how to spread education and awareness about cloth!  I love my cloth diapers and I love helping other mommas to get started too!!!

  1. Thanks for commenting at my blog. Good luck in your final move! We just did our final move in April and are very pleased! Feel free to stay tuned at my blog for more menial updates on what it's like to have a 2 year old (under 2 months to go!) You could secure a letter of recommendation from your friend (Brenda?) regarding your guest speaking, and maybe an excerpt or 2 video taped, maybe it would help you start out immediately doing it at your next job!
