GEN-Y Universal Cover Review and Giveaway

Small Size – Fits 6-18 pounds
Large Size - Fits 18-38 pounds - this is what I tested.

Price Per Cover:  ★★☆☆☆  This diaper cover retails for $21.99.  Covers seem to have a very wide price range, but this seems to be on the more expensive side.  Although it is a bit pricey, there are some special features that may warrant the price.  This cover can be purchased from Fluff Envy, affiliate link to right.

Leaks:  ★★★★★  I had absolutely no leaks with this cover.  This cover is designed to be used with any type of insert (prefolds, flats, fitteds, contour diapers, cloth inserts, or disposable inserts).  The legs have inner gussets to contain messes and leaks, the front and back is gathered so that there is a tight fit no matter what insert is used, and the side snaps allow for waist and leg customized fitting.

Fit:  ★★★★☆  As always, I have trouble fitting my skinny little girl and snaps make it harder to find a good fit.  I was difficult at times to find the perfect fit; even so, I never had a leak.  This diaper has 3 waist snaps on each side and 4 leg/thigh snaps on each side.  These different sets of snaps allow you to find a good fit for any size child.  It does take some time to find what setting works best.  This diaper also has a 3 different snap rise settings allowing to customize the rise.  The neat thing about this cover is that the rise snaps are in the crotch of the cover.  This means that when you snap them in or out, you do not alter the print/pattern of the cover.  I also like that this makes the cover lay flat and not bunch in the front.  This diaper also has soft polyester/ jersey spandex flaps that are comfy for baby but also hold your insert in place.

Ease of Use:  ★★★★☆  This cover is simple to put on once you figure out what setting fits your child.  For me, I do no like side snaps.  This is a personal preference, but on a squirming toddler, side snaps seem to be that much harder.  Also, as always, Daddy and Grandma do not like snaps.  For these two reasons, I gave this cover a four.

Washing:  ★★★☆☆  The inside of this cover of course washes completely clean as it is laminated polyester and whatever is on it simply rinses off.  However, the outside of this diaper is 100% cotton.  I do not feel that this was a good choice of fabric as it rips/pulls/scratches/etc easily.  After just one wash, the outer fabric looked old and worn.  Any dirt or mess that has gotten on the outer fabric washes off well, I just feel that this was a poor choice for an outer fabric.

Overall Performance:  ★★★☆☆  There are features to this diaper that I absolutely love.  I love that I have never had a leak, I like the fit, I love the snap rise in the crotch, and I love the flaps for the inserts.  I personally do not like the side snaps and I am very disappointed in the quality of the outer fabric. I do think that a large part of the problem with the fabric is that it is dark.  I do not feel that a lighter fabric will wear quite as badly.  I also do feel that it throws off the look of the diaper to have a one-way print on the diaper.  this means that either the front or the back print is upside down.  GEN-Y has decided to make the front upside-down and the back right side up.
